Everything I Needed To Know…

The FREE Cradle Club classes offered at Doctors Hospital are specially designed to meet the expectant mother, and her families, educational needs throughout her pregnancy, labor, birth, and beyond. Childbirth classes are offered in three separate series to ensure that the mother and her family receive information that is relevant to each stage of the pregnancy.

When should I take my classes?

The Cradle Club has a uniquely designed program which offers the information you need when you need it most. We have color coded each class to indicate which class should be taken at which stage of your pregnancy. All classes are FREE.

CHILDBIRTH CLASSES

Pickles & Ice Cream Early Pregnancy (14-20 weeks)

Perfect for the first-time mom, but recommended for everyone!  This single-session class is for parents during early pregnancy (14-20 weeks).  Nutrition, exercise, fetal development and current body changes are among the topics discussed.

Showing & Glowing Mid-Pregnancy (20-28 weeks)

A two-session class to be taken during mid-pregnancy (20-28 weeks) that dispels the myths of pregnancy, discusses common discomforts of pregnancy, signs and symptoms of pre-term labor and introduces relaxation techniques used in labor. This class is required to be taken with Ready & Able (see below). Please bring pillows and a blanket to class.

Ready & Able Late Pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

A three-session class recommended for late pregnancy (28-35 weeks). This class includes a tour of The Women’s Center.   Topics discussed include the process of labor and delivery, comfort techniques used in labor, medications/epidurals and relaxation and breathing techniques.  The class is intended to be after Showing & Glowing (see above). Please bring pillows and a blanket to class.


ALTERNATIVE CLASSES

Short & Sweet Late Pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

A two-day weekend class covering discomforts of pregnancy, the process of labor and delivery, comfort techniques used in labor, medication/epidurals and relaxation and breathing techniques. Please bring pillows and a blanket to class.


MORE CLASSES

Breastfeeding Late Pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

There’s a lot more to breastfeeding than you think!  Must-have information for a smooth start to breastfeeding includes what to expect the first few days, normal newborn behavior as it relates to feeding, latching-on, positioning and much, much more. Dads are encouraged to attend – and many do!

Baby 101 Mid-Pregnancy (20-28 weeks)

Infants don’t come with instructions, but this class will equip new parents with knowledge about infant development and the guidance needed to care for their infant.  Topics include normal newborn appearance and behavior, bathing, crying, diapering, swaddling and feeding.

Bumps, Babies and Bruises Mid-Pregnancy (20-28 weeks)

This class is recommended not only for parents, but family and friends as well. Infant CPR, as taught by the American Heart Association, is discussed and hands-on skills are practiced.  Infant safety issues are also covered.

Big Brother/Big Sister Late pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

Becoming a big brother or big sister is a big event.  This class offers fun, educational and interactive activities so that your children will be prepared to welcome your new baby.  He/she will also be given a tour of the Center for Women to see where mom and baby will be during their stay.

The Daddy Class Late Pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

This class is for dads only—no women allowed!  Taught by an experienced dad, this class offers an opportunity to talk about the joys and challenges of fatherhood, various ways to support mom through pregnancy, labor, birth and breastfeeding.  Hands-on practice with baby dolls helps dads learn basic baby care.

Center for Women Tour Late Pregnancy (28-35 weeks)

Tour the Center for Women to see our beautiful Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) rooms.  Learn about our Family-Centered Maternity care program and how we will care for you and your baby together, as a couplet.  If you are registered for our Nine Months and Counting classes, you will tour our facility in the “Ready and Able” series or the “Short & Sweet” weekend class.
